Do you ingest archived or deleted email?

This question means slightly different things (and has slightly different answers) depending on whether you’re connecting a Google or Microsoft account.

For Google Accounts

We do not ingest any messages that live in your Trash folder or that have been deleted.

We do ingest messages that you’ve archived in Gmail or GSuite (e.g. messages that appear when you select ‘All Mail’).

For Microsoft Accounts

We do not ingest any messages that live in your Trash folder or that have been deleted.

We also do not ingest any messages that live in in-place archive mailboxes, either on Exchange Online or Exchange Server.  This is due to a limitation of the Microsoft Graph API that we use to ingest messages.

What about company/organization-archived messages or mailboxes?

Whether we ingest/access messages or mailboxes that have been archived by your organization depends on when those messages were archived.

If your organization has archived messages or put a policy in place to prevent access to certain messages before we ingest them, we will not be able to access those messages and therefore won’t ingest them.

If your organization has archived messages or put a policy in place to prevent access to certain messages after we ingest them, we will retail the headers and metadata about those messages in your Connect The Dots account.  The ingestion process makes a copy of that data into your account, so if the source data is deleted or restricted, that will not change the data in your account.
