Getting Started

Most of these steps are pretty quick and can be done in a matter of minutes. If you'd like a full tour of Connect The Dots, contact your Account Executive or Customer Success Representative.

Once you're done with these tasks: You'll have all your relationships perfectly organized, sorted by relationship strength, and you will have multiplied your network intelligence 10x.

Steps to Get Started

  1. Install the Chrome extension and import your LinkedIn contacts
  2. Add an email account (Highly recommended)
  3. Turn on send permissions so you can author and send emails from within the application
  4. Review your relationships
  5. Customize your sharing preferences

Step 1: Install the extension and import your LinkedIn contacts

Visit http://ctd.ai/chrome and install the extension. Sign in with Google or Outlook and click on the "Let's go" button to import your LinkedIn contacts. The import should only take a few minutes, but may take longer if you have thousands of contacts .

Adding your LinkedIn contacts is an important step toward maximizing the size of your usable network. The larger your network, the greater the chance you'll find connections to new prospects. We talk about building your Supergraph. When have you ever had all of your contacts organized, and automatically deduplicated, in one place? We do it for you in a few clicks.

What is the impact of importing LinkedIn?
You might have 1,000 LinkedIn connections – likely more. Connect The Dots enriches these contacts with a relationship score, email history, contact information, mutual contacts, and career overlaps. These contacts are also available as prospects for your coworkers and people you're connected to in CTD.

FAQ

  1. If I don't use Google Chrome, is there another way to upload my LinkedIn connections?

Step 2: Add an email account (Highly recommended)

Importing your LinkedIn contacts is a great start. It's even better when you add your work contacts. However, the best way to get a complete view of your network is to also add your personal contacts. The addition of more accounts results in a more complete, and powerful, Supergraph.

What is the impact of adding an account?
On average, connecting a personal email will add 7 years of history and 123 strong & familiar relationships. Connecting a work email will add 2.5 years of history and 128 strong & familiar relationships. The total number of contacts, including weak connections, is roughly 5,867. Each year you keep a connected account you should expect to see your contact count grow by 15%. Get a multiplier effect when you invite former coworkers to join your on CTD. Combining your contacts and work history will lead to hundreds of valuable career overlaps and new prospects.

FAQs

  1. What can I see? What can other people see?
  2. Can I block specific people or companies? How about hiding a key contact?
  3. How do I get comfortable that my data is secure and privacy is fully respected?
  4. What data do you analyze and store?
  5. If I change my mind and want to delete my account, can I wipe all my data from the system?

Step 3: Turn on send permissions

Connect The Dots securely supports Google and Microsoft Send Permissions. This allows you to use our email editor, templates, and variables, to send emails directly from within the application. Since they're integrated with your email account, they will also appear in your sent items. All responses will appear in your inbox. You can individually set up send permissions for your personal email, or have your G-Suite or Outlook Admin set up send permissions for everyone at your company.

What is the Impact of setting up send permissions?
With send permissions turned on, asking for introductions and sending ghost emails is simple and frictionless. We automatically suggest templates that require minimal customization. You can make dozens of asks and keep in touch with important people in your network. This will lead to more meetings, faster cycle times, bigger deals, and accelerate your career growth.

FAQs

  1. What are the instructions I should send to my Google Workspace admin?
  2. What are the instructions I should send to my Outlook admin?

Step 4: Review your relationships

When you sign in to Connect The Dots all of your relationships will be perfectly organized and sorted by relationship strength.  We recommend clicking on the People tab and reviewing your familiar and weak connections. If you'd like some people to appear higher in the list, just increase their relationship score. Currently, CTD scores your relationships based only on your email history, so some of your scores may be lower than expected.

What is the impact of adjusting scores?
This step is optional, but the upside is that your time investment improves your data. Doing so keeps more people top-of-mind when you're using the app. It also helps your network get a more accurate view of your strongest relationships. This allows them to choose the right person when looking for an introduction to new connections.

FAQ

Step 5: Customize your sharing preferences

We highly recommend keeping the default settings to get the most out of CTD. Most people do not edit their sharing preferences. The reason for this is you share minimal information about the relationships in your network. It is limited to the strength of your relationship, name, title, and current organization. That’s it.

We understand some relationships are more sensitive than others. We put privacy in your control. The following options are available for contacts and companies:

Public - Your contacts will see who is in your network
Private - No one will see a private contact in your network
Blocked - Blocked contacts and companies can't see your network. This is primarily used to hide your network from competitors.

Changing privacy settings is simple:

  • On a list view of People or Companies, use the "more" menu (three vertical dots) to choose your preferred option.
  • On a Contact or Company detail page use the same "more" menu to the right of the avatar.

Step 6: Send invites to important connectors

This is the fastest, and easiest, way to grow your Supergraph (your network of connectors).  By inviting well connected contacts, you are significantly increasing your number of potential contacts. By accepting your invite, they become connectors. This greatly increases the likelihood of finding new prospects and landing new opportunities. For example, you might not know a single person at a target company, but chances are you know people who do.

What is the impact of adding connectors?
On average everyone you invite to Connect The Dots will bring hundreds of strong and familiar relationships into the network. Imagine what happens when you add hundreds of coworkers. Another powerful approach is to add a few of your closest super-connectors! This dramatically increases the number of potential contacts you, and your team, can reach through warm introductions.

Who should you invite?  Ideally, invite people who are very well connected and have incentives that align with your goals. Here are some recommendations:

Your Family: This is a great place to start. Your family wants to help. Particularly if you’re young in your career, your parents' networks could be a huge asset.

Friends & Former Colleagues: Whose network do you want to tap into? Maybe it’s someone who is well connected in your industry. This can be a mutually benefical connection. Earn kudos by introducing them to their next big opportunity!

Customer Champions: If you’ve built a relationship with a customer and they’ve been a great advocate, get them to join Connect The Dots. You can then ask for introductions to peers at other companies where they have strong relationships.

Investors and Advisors: These contacts have a strong vested interest in your success. With Connect The Dots you get a complete picture of who they know and a streamlined workflow for asking for introductions to accelerate pipeline generation.

Coworkers:  Your coworkers – especially your Executive team – are aligned with your goals. Getting them on Connect The Dots is huge! Not only can you leverage their networks, but they’ve got a vested interest in helping you with introductions. Over time, this also helps create a close alumni network. If your company purchases the Business Edition, all of your coworkers will added automatically.

Note: There is no limit to the number of people you can invite.
